A major web security flaw was recently discovered in OpenSSL, which basically gives would-be hackers access to sites and technology that rely on that technology. It’s major — firms like Yahoo and Google were susceptible at certain points, Re/Code said — but Apple says all of its products are completely safe since it hasn’t adopted OpenSSL.
“Apple takes security very seriously,” the company said in a statement to Re/Code on Thursday. “iOS and OS X never incorporated the vulnerable software and key Web-based services were not affected.” That’s good news for anyone who uses iOS, OS X and Apple’s other products like iCloud — but your data could potentially have been exposed from other sites that did use OpenSSL, like Facebook, Tumblr and others.
Most experts have been suggesting that you change all of your web passwords in an effort to protect yourself best against any possible Heartbleed leaks. This does suggest, however, that at least Apple’s products have been safe.
