When I was pregnant I was addicted to the TV series 'One Born Every Minute'. I watched both the American and the British series on Foxtel ... I was fascinated by the birthing stories, I wanted to know everything about the birthing process. I thought that if I watched the showers and saw all the birthing scenarios then I would be able to do.
Oh I was prepared - I had a whole bag full of items I never even touched.

I brought my swimmers in case I wanted to have a bath. I brought my husband's swimmers in case I wanted him to get in the shower or the bath with me to massage my back. But when the time came I couldn't think of anything worse then getting wet!

I brought in a heat pack because they said they had ice packs in the hospital but you might like to bring your own heat pack for back pain. Thankfully I didn't have any back pain because I was so hot I don't think I could have done a heat pack.

I constantly asked my husband for water, cold fashion washers on my forehead and to turn the air-con in my room down. I was on fire and my husband froze - wrapped up in his hoodie beside me.

I brought in stress balls that I could squeeze, but I completely forgot they were even in my bag.

I brought in two different flavours of Gatorade and a packet of strawberries and creams for energy - and even though I laboured from 1am until 2pm, I didn't want anything.

I'd seen Rosie Pope take mineral water into her labours, so I packed that in my bag too (and it remained there).

I pushed for almost two hours and finally delivered via vaccum extraction. I'm so happy to have my son and I'm looking forward to having more children... But I can no longer watch 'One Born Every Minute', it is way too distressing.
