Former United star Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been brought in to keep Cardiff up.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been named as Cardiff City’s new manager.
The former Manchester United star has put pen to paper on a 12-month rolling contract and has been given the task of keeping the Bluebirds in the Premier League.
Solskjaer’s appointment comes just days after Malky Mackay’s controversial sacking by the Cardiff board.
The Norwegian met his new squad at the club’s training ground in Wales earlier today and joins after a very successful spell as manager at Molde in his homeland.
He led them to two league titles and a cup win in Norway but now comes to the Premier League to face a new kind of battle, the scrap to avoid relegation.
"I've always dreamt of being a manager in the Premier League and I'm delighted to get the opportunity,” said Solskjaer.
"It is a fantastic challenge. Cardiff are ready to take the next step up. I hope I can help them.
"I am really looking forward to convincing the Cardiff fans that I am the right man to take them forward.
"I will try to convince the fans with my hard work, loyalty and my brand of football. I'm a very positive manager," said the 40-year-old who had many glorious years in the top tier of English football.
His first game in charge is an FA Cup match this Saturday against Newcastle United but his attentions will be firmly on league survival.
Cardiff are 17th in the table and only one point clear of the drop zone after being beaten 2-0 at top-of-the-league Arsenal on Wednesday.
Club owner Tan has promised to give Solskjaer funds to spend on new players during the current transfer window in a bid to stop the side who came up this season from the Championship going straight back down.
