Whilst the opening of the transfer window means players are now free to move in January, it also gives clubs the opportunity to negotiate free transfers for the summer.

2014 certainly appears to be the year of the quality free agent, with a number of established players from across Europe potentially available for nothing.

Teams can't agree deals for a player who plays in the same country as they are based, but it does offer them the opportunity of landing a target in a cut-price deal.

This particular list is based on stats provided by TransferMarkt, who offer a valuation for each of the 106 players with expiring contracts this year.

And so, without further ado, we look at the 25 best players available for nothing at the end of the season. There are plenty of big names who make the cut, as well as some you might not know so much about.
